Walter Peter Light

Walter Peter Light, 71, of Emmons Street, Dannemora, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 26, 2020 at the Essex Center in Elizabethtown, NY after a long battle with Parkinsons. He was born in Plattsburgh on February 6, 1948 the son of Walter E. and Shirley (Calkins) Light.
Pete graduated from Dannemora High School, he went on to Adirondack Community College before joining the United States Army. After being discharged from the Army, and joining the reserves, he began working for the New York State Department of Corrections at Clinton Correctional before going on to Altona Correctional. Pete retired from corrections in 1999 after 31 years of service. Pete was the Village of Dannemora Historian and founder of the Village of Dannemora Museum in 2011. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, antique cars, baseball and photography. Pete also had a great affection for all his pets, especially his dog Molly.
Pete was predeceased by his parents and his brothers-in-law Rick Lucia and Edward Breyette.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Patricia (Johnson) Light, three children; Peter Light and wife Shelley of Jay, NY, Andrea Light and her wife Dianne Curtin of Boston and Cynthia Vallieres and her companion Stephen Lucia of Dannemora, five grandchildren; Tyler Light, Abbey Light, Caitlin Vallieres, Samantha Vallieres and Shannon Vallieres, his siblings; Linda (Douglas) Williams, Patricia Lucia, Mary Ellen (Mary Mahan) Light, Michele Light and Michael (Loraine) Light, several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday January 31, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday February 1, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora, burial will be later in the year.
