Walter J Martiny

Walter J. Martiny, Jr., 96, of Lake Forest Drive, Plattsburgh, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, August 15th, 2022, with his family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 28th, 1926, the son of Walter J. and Martha (Stewart) Martiny, Sr.

Walter graduated from high school at age 16 and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Tulane University with a degree in electrical engineering. He went straight into the service as a U.S Marine in the Pacific theater and shortly thereafter was transferred to the US Navy and worked directly for Admiral Powers until the end of the war. Upon his military discharge, Walter worked at General Electric for forty-five years where he developed two patents in his name.

On November 19, 1950, he married the love of his life, Betsy Coleman in Lynn, Massachusetts. In addition to their own children, Walter and Betsy fostered many other children.

Walter is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betsy Martiny, along with his three children, Alan Martiny and his wife Rebecca of Seattle Washington, Donald Martiny and his wife Celia Johnson of Ivoryton, Connecticut and Cynthia Martiny and her husband Robert Conyers of Montreal, Canada, 24 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

There will be a private celebration of Walter’s life and interment will be at a later date.
