Wayne N. Twining, 85, of Peru, NY passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was born in Plattsburgh on January 14, 1936, the son of Beulah Luck and Noble Twining.
Wayne graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in 1953 and attended Plattsburgh State. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran. He was a New York State Trooper from 1959 until he retired in 1972. He started his own business, Garden Island Marine, on the Lake Shore and served as Peru Town Justice of the Peace and was Commodore of the Valcour Sailing Club, a true Jack- of- All Trades. He was self-taught on building and carpentry making furniture, boats, docks, and was even commissioned to design and craft the Mayor’s Cup Challenge Trophy. He loved the Adirondacks where he enjoyed sailing, camping, fishing, tinkering in his workshop.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy of 57 years, 4 daughters Karen (Frank) Cumbo, Kathy (Farren) Mion, Katie (Nadim) Mitchell, Kristie (Jim Hartnett) Twining; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Wayne had compassion, strong Christian faith, sense of humor, wit, and creative story telling making him an amazing father, friend and husband.
Visitation will be Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:30am at St. Augustine’s Church with burial following at the parish cemetery.
