Wilburt L "Bill" Elliott

Durham, North Carolina Wilburt (Bill) L. Elliott, 87, of Ocala, FL, and formerly of Plattsburgh, NY and Durham, NC died peacefully at the home of his step son Jamie on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in Durham, NC. He was born April 28, 1928, the son of the late Wilburt and Sarah (O'Brien) Elliott. Bill retired as a Lt. Col. from the United States Army after 25 years of dedicated service to his country. He served during World War II, the Korean War, and in the Viet Nam War. He attended Clarkson University, while attending ROTC and received his commission following graduation and he received his Master's Degree from the University of Alabama. Bill worked for 18 years at Clinton Community College retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Durham, he was an active member of the Military Officers Association. He and his wife Ann enjoyed travel and in recent years visited Italy twice and cruised once on the Mediterranean. They enjoyed concerts, plays and other activities in the Raleigh Durham area. Bill is survived by his wife, Angela Baker-Elliott, his children; Alicia Durkee and her husband Wayne of Durham, NC, Angela Breen and her husband Edward of O'Fallon, IL, and C. Thomas Myers of Plattsburgh, two step sons, James Lambert of Durham, NC and Brian Lambert of Tampa Florida, and one brother, Charles Elliott and his wife Anne, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Jean Duquette Elliott and his daughter Renee Elliott Myers A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Mason Road, Durham, NC on July 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Plattsburgh NY at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a future date to be determined by the family.
