Wilfred J. "Pete" Trombley, 94, of Addoms St., Plattsburgh, NY, passed away July 5 , 2017 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. He was born August 25, 1922, in Plattsburgh, NY, to Edward and Mary (King) Trombley. Pete graduated from Mount Assumption Institute where he was active in sports and was affectionately known as "Peanuts" Trombley. In 1943, Pete married Evelyn Bourdeau and, soon after, entered the war effort as a navigator on a B-17 bomber. It was there, during the Second World War, that he successfully completed eighteen bombing missions over Germany. Upon returning, Pete earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1951. He then began working for the Army Corps of Engineers, before moving on to Wright and Morrissey Construction. In 1962, he co-founded his own construction company in Plattsburgh, Tracy Trombley Construction, and later, would also establish the Champlain Valley Builder's Exchange in the city. Over the years, he was very active in the Plattsburgh community, holding numerous positions in local organizations. He was the President of the Kiwanis Club, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served two separate terms as Exalted Ruler of the Plattsburgh Elk's Lodge. In addition, as a member of the Elk's, he represented the region as a District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the NY-North district. Pete also devoted his time numerous other civic organizations in the Plattsburgh area in his lifetime. Pete was an avid golfer and would play whenever he had the time, both here in Plattsburgh, and beyond. He was a very proud of the hole in one he achieved at Elks Ridge Golf Course in 1998. Pete was predeceased by his lovely wife Evelyn in 1985, five brothers: Louis, Napoleon, George, Frank, and Edward, and a sister: Geraldine Rugar. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Davies, her husband Robert, and their son. He has many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him. At Pete's request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Country Honor Flight http://www.nchonorflight.org/donate.html, which flies North Country veterans to visit national memorials.
