Winifred M. Armstrong, 87, of Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH.
She was born in Plattsburgh, NY on 11/22/31 to Albert and Mildred Lamere (Bezio)
She was predeceased by her mother and father, her brother Donald LaMere , & her husband Sanford Wray Armstrong .
Winnie left Plattsburgh at a very young age to attend Nursing School in Nyack, NY where she met Sanford as they bowled together. Love blossomed soon they were married.
Both of them worked and thrived in the field of Psychiatric Medicine and moved to the West Coast and worked at the Metropolitan State Hospital of Norwalk, California where they raised their four daughters and enjoyed the warmer climates until retiring here, “a little early” to care for her mother in 1980.Just as The Miracle on Ice was happening with the Winter Olympics of 1980! This helped them persuade the Family to move from our SUNNY Calif. Home.
She and her husband bought a quaint Motel from the 50’s which later turned into an Emergency Housing for the Needy of the Community. Winnie was well respected in her career as well as her personal life. She was famous for making us cozy blankets that will always keep us snug.
She made beautiful jewelry, she enjoyed taking long drives, walks on the beach and an occasional beer with a touch of salt! Winnie made her family priority; she was a great and supportive mother to her four girls and a devoted wife. She also made her Life’s work helping others.
Sundance is known by many as a place to re-group and get back on your feet with the generous help of Winnie and her Family. Winnie will be remembered as a hardworking, independent and loving Mom. As her girls would all agree, “She is like No other” and will be sorely missed.
Winnie leaves behind four daughters, Jeri-Lou Armstrong, Tammy Utley, Cheryl Mason and Cynthia Jarvis. 4 Grandchildren, Christopher Moore, Julia Mills, Ryan Mason with wife Linda Mason and Bryant DeMelo.; she also has two Great Grandchildren, Eisley Marie Rodriquez and Mekennah Rae Demelo.
