Mrs. Yvonne K. Herkalo, 92, of Bushey Blvd. in Plattsburgh and formerly of Upper Darby, PA passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh with her family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh on September 3, 1919, the daughter of the late John B. and Agnes O. (Bouvier) Light. Yvonne was a graduate of D'Youville Academy and Canton College with an Associates Degree in Dietary Science. During WWII she was a dietician at Champlain Valley Hospital. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, a Life Member of the Rosary and Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Mary Immaculate Chapter #479, the Senior Citizens Council and she volunteered at the Soup Kitchen for several years. Yvonne enjoyed tatting, crocheting, sewing, playing bingo, dancing and bowling. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Andrew J. "Bricky" Herkalo, her siblings: Mildred Kirk, Maynard Light, Anita Lemieux, Valeda Kavanaugh, Andre Light and Jeanne Farrington. Yvonne is survived by her children: Judy Miller and her partner Wayne Mosteller of San Lorenzo, NM, Keith Herkalo and his wife Dr. Joy Demarse of Plattsburgh, Brian Herkalo and his wife Judith of Downingtown, PA, Elyse Zielinski and her husband Peter of Plattsburgh, two brothers: Nap Light and his wife Theresa of Peru and Dr. Alfred Light and his wife Eddie of Plattsburgh; a sister Bernadette Dalton of Peru; her grandchildren and their spouses: Cherie (Doug) Sheppard, Joshua Miller and their father John Miller; Rita (Jeremy) Leale, Brian (Kari) Herkalo, Toni (Dale) Koch, and their mother Mickey Donovan; Andrew Herkalo; Eric (Christina) Zielinski, Keri (Matt) Forkey; Jacki (Shawn) Purtell and Jorja Marcil. Nine great grandchildren, a brother-in-law Charles Farrington of CA, a sister-in-law Honey Light of Plattsburgh and several nieces and nephews also survive her. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be offered in her name to St. Peters Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Mary Immaculate Chapter #479 or the Senior Citizens Council. Members of the Rosary and Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters are asked to meet at St. Peter's Church at 4:30 p.m. to recite the Rosary and serve as Honor Guard.
