Yvonne Y Slaughter

Cumberland Head Mrs. Yvonne Y. "Lorraine" Slaughter, 90, of Genesee Lane, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH with family by her side. She was born on January 14, 1925 in Rimouski, Quebec, the daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Gauvin) Gagnon. Lorraine was employed as a waitress for many years at the well-known Stonehelm Restaurant. She also worked as a cook at St. Mary's of the Lake parish for Fr. Tobin. She loved to cook and to set a beautiful table. Lorraine was an avid reader, most particularly of her Bible. She was a member of a home Bible study group that met for over 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church where she taught catechism and was a member of the Ladies of St. Mary's. Lorraine also was a great follower of news and politics and loved to debate about current events. Lorraine was from a family of 13 children and was pre-deceased by several of her siblings. She is survived by a daughter and son in law; Debbie and Alan Passno of Cumberland Head, her grandchildren; Stephanie Passno-Kemp and companion Chris Miller, Brandon and Lindsey Passno, Michelle and Austin Roes, Cherie Passno and Shannon Passno, and her great grandchildren; Rayne Kemp, Chloe Kemp, and Henry Passno. She is also survived by two brothers and three sisters; Yvon and Rejean Gagnon, Laura Choquette, Cecile Turcotte and Carmen Gagnon. Her husband Kenneth Slaughter passed away December 18, 1980. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Saint John XXIII Newman Center. Interment will follow in St. Mary's of the Lake Cemetery on Cumberland Head.
