Zahava Bibliowicz Harrison

August 12, 1946 — September 3, 2020

Zahava Bibliowicz Harrison of Broadway Road in Plattsburgh passed away at the loving home of her daughter, Jessica, in Latham, NY on September 3, 2020. She was surrounded with love by her 3 daughters. Zahava was born on August 12, 1946 in Bogota, Colombia to Abraham and Helena (Szewach) Bibliowicz. After high school she met and fell in love with her beloved Stuart and they married in Bogota in 1965. After marrying, she moved to the United States to join Stuart and his family in Plattsburgh and continue the family business of Harrison's Auto Supply. While in Plattsburgh she earned her Masters Degree in Counseling and her Teaching Certification in Spanish. She taught briefly at Plattsburgh State College and continued her career for over 25 years at Saranac Central School District as a Spanish teacher until her retirement. She was an active member of NYSUT and worked for the state education department developing curriculum for testing in foreign languages and other content areas. She was also a pioneer in developing the Spanish curriculum. She was passionate about her Jewish community and Temple Beth Israel. Constantly doing for, giving to and taking care of others was what she was known for and what made her happy. She lived to help and do for anyone and everyone. When not involved with her community, she enjoyed Mah Jongg and bridge games with her friends. Her real love was her family and anyone that met her instantly became her ‘family’. She is survived by her three daughters, Natalie (Shawn) Mercaldi, Jessica (John) Repko and Rachel (David) Stander; her grandchildren, Joey (Kelsey) Reif III, Sarah Reif, Shawn Mercaldi II, Alexa Mercaldi, Abigail Olivieri, Julia Repko, Aidan Repko, Jack Stander and Ryan Stander and great grandson Kolyn Reif. She is also survived by siblings Musia (Jack) Delman, Dr. Michael (Virginia) Bibliowicz, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 55 years, Stuart, who passed away almost a year ago, her parents Abraham and Helena Bibliowicz, and in-laws Benson and Rachel Harrison. A burial will be held on Friday, September 4 for immediate family only. An unveiling and celebration of family for both of our parents will take place next summer when we can all be together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to LaSalle School of Albany where Zahava's daughter, Jessica Repko, has been a dedicated, licensed clinical social worker and director of admissions for over 15 years, supporting families in need. Donations can be made by visiting www.lasalle-school.org or mailing a donation to: LaSalle School, 391 Western Avenue, Albany, NY 12203
Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901
