Fred A. LaGoy, 93, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 20121 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 24, 1919 the son of Henry and Heloise (Lefreniere) in a log cabin on the Alder Bend Road in Jerusalem. He was the 6th of 8 children. Fred married the love of his life Lucy Etta DuBrey on April 20, 1940. He was a devoted husband and their love story lasted 72 1/2. They loved to Square Dance every Saturday night at Kings Grove. Fred served in the Civilian Conversation Corps (CCC Camp) in 1939, the Onedia Silverware Plant in Sherill, NY, the Republic Steel Mines in Lyon Mountain and in 1945 bought a dairy farm. He continued to purchase land for logging and accumulated almost 800 acres of land. He retired from Clinton Correctional Facility as a Motor Vehicle Operator and Warden LaValley's personal Chauffeur. He was a lifetime member of the Siberian Rod & Gun Club also a life member of the North America Hunting Club. Fred was a strong man of French and & Indian heritage. He was a bi-lingual in French and English. He provided well for his family through farming, logging, trapping, gardening and hunting. He loved to hunt and shot his first deer at 15 and each succeeding year with his final trophy 9 point buck at age 84. He taught the family the value of hard work, respect for ourselves and others and the true joy and beauty of nature. He loved to be surrounded by family and friends especially his grandchildren. Faith was the foundation of his long and fruitful life. Up until this day he said his daily prayers in French. He was a gifts "Story Teller" with a good sense of humor. Family and friends gathered to listen and here his adventures. Fred was a wise man who enjoyed giving advice and was sought out by many. He could track like no one else and seemed to have a built in compass never getting lost. He was a modern day "Horse Trader" with a passion to dicker and barter. He loved to tell jokes, laugh and win at pinochle. Along with riding his Artic Cat Snowmobile, 4 Wheelers and Kawaski Mule Fred and Lucy traveled to Mexico, Italy, Alaska, England, Scotland and Wales. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy and children Fred H. and Annette LaGoy of Cadyville; Evelyn and Ronald Kerr of Sneads Ferry, NC; Linda and Glen Swanson of Hampstead, NC and Louise and Deacon Ed Mazuchowski of Cadyville. His devoted grandchildren Fred H. LaGoy, Jr., Rober LaGoy, Lisa McAllister, Brandon Drapeau, Melissa Brin, Monica LaMay, Raymond LaMay, Michele McAlpine and Lt. Col Edward L. Mazuchowski, MD and his numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Richard and Rose LaGoy and Leeward and Elizabeth LaGoy of Vernon, NY; three sister-in-laws Leona Rebideau, Loretta Boyd, Vina Gonzales and brother-in-law William DuBrey along with many treasured nephews and nices. He was pre-deceased by his parents; Lucy's parents, Elmer and Evelyn Dubrey; his siblings, William, Francis, Albert, Lucille Coryea and Amelia Wilczak. His brother-in-laws; Elmer, Gordon, Sherman and Melvin DeBrey also Pat Rebideau, Richard Couture, Louis Ganzales, Clarence Coryea and Joe Wilczak. As this man of deep faith travels from his earthly home we thank him for all his love and caring to all of us. Dad may you find rest in the arms of Jesus, comfort in seeing those who have gone before you and ready a place for us to join you. Thank you to Dr. Baker, Dr. Grinberg and Dr. Webber, Hospice, HCR and staffs for taking such good care of my husband and our Dad. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
