Ricky S. “Papa Bear” Lashway, 66, of the Ashley Road, West Chazy passed away Wednesday July 22, 2020 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 22, 1954 the son of Walter and Athelie (Dubray) Lashway. Ricky was a Vietnam Era Veteran serving in the U. S. Navy. He married Alice Love on November 3, 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida. Ricky worked at Imperial Mill as a power engineer from 1979-1999. He opened Lashway’s Used Cars in 1992 and was still operating his business at the time of his death. Ricky enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, moose hunting, wheeling and dealing, taking care of business and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #255, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and St. Joseph’s Church, West Chazy. A gentle giant, Rick seemed gruff on the outside, but he was a compassionate and caring man on the inside.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son Richie Lashway.
Ricky is survived by his wife Alice Lashway, his children; Jessica (Dennis) McLean and their daughters; Willow, Abigail, Fiona and Hannah, Walter (Marlena) Lashway and their children; Isaac and Elijah, Alicia (Nicholas) Graton, his siblings; Angela Spiegel and Staub, Nancy and Dennis Wild of Plattsburgh, Pam and Terry Lashway, David and Carrie Lashway, Dennis and Shelly Lashway many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and his canine companion Jazzy.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, West Chazy.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the DAV Chapter 179 or North Country Veterans Association in care of Brown Funeral Home.
Due to pandemic conditions, facial masks and social distancing is required.
